基本步骤：

1. 软件准备：本教程需要DFS软件和手机的驱动。DFS软件下载可以在参考资料2中找到。手机驱动可以在三星的官方网站找到。
2. 安装软件：安装上述软件在电脑上。
3. 激活手机：找到手机的IMEI，联系Selectel激活手机。打电话给客服，获取自己的MIN，MDN和SID。
4. 取下SIM卡：整个刷机过程不需要SIM卡。
5. 开启DM模式：在手机上拨 ##366633#，选取 DM MODE ON。按HOME键退出。
6. 手机设定备份：手机连接电脑，确认驱动程序安装好了。运行DFS

•  Open “Ports”, select the COM port belonging to the phone.
• DFS should establish a connection and read the status and diagnostic info.
• Enter your SPC and click the button (log should indicate “UNLOCKED”)
• Enter your 16-digit password and click the button (log should indicate “UNLOCKED”)
• Go through each section of the equipment and programming tabs and click READ for each subsection.  Then MAKE SCREENSHOTS of your default values.

8. 刷机

DFS – Now you can WRITE

1. Make sure the SIM card is removed.
2. Turn on phone and connect to USB – ensure drivers are detected and installed.
3. Start DFS.  Open “Ports”, select the COM port belonging to the phone.
4. DFS should establish a connection and read the status and diagnostic info.
5. Enter your SPC and 16-digit password
6. In Programming / NAM, write the following:
   1. IMSI (leave IMSI T unchanged)
      1. MIN A and MIN D = your MIN / MSID (not phone number)
      2. MCC = 310; MNC=00
   2. Enter your MDN into both the SPC and MDN fields
   3. Set your SID (NID should be 65535)
   4. Check the remaining boxes to match this and then click WRITE:
      
      

      DFS: Programming / NAM
7. In Programming / Data, write the following:
   1. PPP
      1. SIP NAI: “Your MDN”@dun.vzw3g.com
      2. UID: “Your MDN”@vzw3g.com
      3. PWD: vzw (box unchecked)

      1. NAI: “Your MDN”@vzw3g.com

   4. I will make a brief note here to remark that some of these values were erased when changing the baseband on my phone (which I did out of order of this guide) and I ended up with this.  It still worked (and I have learned not to mess with things that are working).
   5. Check the remaining boxes to match this (Hybrid preferred can be Enabled):

   6. Click WRITE
8. In Programming / Mobile IP, write the following:
   1. Under profile column:
      1. Select the first bubble and make active (Right click, enable profile)

   5. CLICK ON ” Write current profile settings” – do this 2x to make sure everything stuck
9. Finally, lets go back to Programming / NAM, and write the PRL:
   1. First READ and then SAVE your current PRL
   2. Then LOAD and WRITE the 60008 PagePlus PRL
   3. The radios will reboot/reset after doing this
10. Done!  Click Reset in the top right, and restart phone!
    1. Disconnect from DFS and unplug your phone.

至此刷机完成。完成后，可以直接打电话和发短信了。

Flash my Verizon Galaxy Nexus to Selectel

Intro

I used to have unlimited talk and text and shared 4GB of data with Verizon, for that I pay $60 per month (already in a family plan). Howerver, I don't usually make a lot of phone calls and I barely use the data since I have WIFI at work and home. It's stupid of me to pay big bucks after I found out that there are cheaper plans out there with many prepaid carriers. After looking for a better solution for a while, I decided to go with Selectel.

I actually considered Selectel and Page Plus (another prepaid carrier). Both are most popular at this time. Page plus is in the business for several years and has a lot of users. It uses Verizon's prepaid network and charge for roaming. Selectel is a new carrier which started in 2013. It uses Verizon's post-paid network (might be more reliable than its prepaid network?) and do not change for roaming. For more information about them, please visit their website, talk to their support staff or do your research online. I found a lot of information on the website of genius-wireless.com. genius-wireless.com is a dealer of Page plus and Selectel, I am using their service but I don't receive anything from them for this article.

Yesterday, I finally flashed my phone and switched my cell phone service from Verizon to Selectel. It turned out that Verizon's Galaxy Nexus has a reputation of hard-to-flash. Luckily there are already tutorials out there (see my reference at the end of this article). Here I just want to document the the process again in case I need to this again.

Before I go ahead, I have to say I did not bother to try flashing my phone to 3G (I don't really use it), but it can be done. A link has been given if you are interested in flash your galaxy nexus to 3G.

OK, let's start.

Port phone number to Selectel

Call Verizon and tell them your are going to port your number, ask them if there is anything you need to take care of before you do it, whether there will be any charges and how to avoid them. For me, since my contract already ended and I was not the account holder of the family plan I was in, there was no charge and no complications. If you are the account holder of a family plan, you need to let all other lines out of the plan before you can do something on your own number. If you are in a family plan, let the account holder know before you port your number since s/he might want to downgrade the plan before your port your number out.
Ask Verizon to give you:

• Verizon account #:
• Passcode:
• Account holder’s name:
• Billing address:

On your phone, find your phone's ESN (MEID) (see here for how-to).

With your MEID and the information you get from Verizon, order a free port in service via genius-wireless.com (link) or other dealer. Please ask dealer to give you the MIN and SIP. If they ask why do you need them, just tell them you need to manually program your phone.

Preparation:

Software, rom, script and patch files

Please download all the needed software and files HERE (404MB). Unzip the file to you computer.

Please confirm you have the following files.

In the Install to computer folder, you should have:

• Galaxy Nexus Toolkit
• [ETS 8.5.17]
• [Drivers of the phone]

In the copy to phone folder, you should have

• 52892_page_plus_sprint_phones.prl
• EOS-toroplus-20130617-105.zip
• i515-3g-patch-ga02.zip
• pa_toro-3.60-25JUN2013-064020.zip
• Slim_Gapps.4.2.2.build.5.zip
• toroplus_for_toro_cdma_radio-FC12.zip

There are two other files

• PagePlusSIDList.xls
• script.txt

Hardware

• A Windows PC
• A sim card
• Your phone (with at least 50% power on battery) and USB cord

Now you have everything you need and let's start flashing the phone.

Flashing steps:

Step 0: software Installation

Install Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, ETS 8.5.17, and Drivers of the phone to you computer. When install ETS, there is a step asking you to choose communication port, choose USB (very important). After installation, restart your computer (very important).

Step 1: Unlock and root your phone, and install custom recovery. [Skip this step if you have done this before.]

1. Remove SIM card from your phone. (Don't toss it, you will need it later)
2. On phone, Enable usb debugging
3. Power off the phone and boot into boot loader (by holding Power + Volume up + Volume down buttons)
4. Connect phone to PC via USB. On your computer, start device manager, if your phone is recognized as Android 1.0 instead of Samsung ADB Interface, you need to update it's driver. On the screen where you're told to Browse for driver software on your computer, instead click on Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my compute at the bottom of the window and select the SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface.
5. On computer, Start Galaxy Nexus Toolkit.
6. say no to update
7. select you android version, option 36 (my was 4.2.2)
8. select option "8" to unlock, root your phone
9. follow instructions to unlock bootloader (press VOL DOWN then POWER to unlock bootloader when asked)
10. Phone will reboot multiple times and you will need to enable usb debugging again. Just follow the instructions. When the phone is finally booted into Android, step 1 is done and your phone is now unlocked and rooted.

Step 2: install EOS, Gapps, toroplus-for-toro-FC12

1. On computer, copy all files in the copy to phone folder to a folder to the root of your SDCARD. I created a folder named PPflash and put all the files in it.
2. Unplug the phone and reboot the phone to bootloader.
3. On phone, go to recovery mod (hit volume up twice and then power botton) and you will be in TWRP.
4. Wipe/advanced wipe/data, system, cach, dalvik-cache
5. Install EOS, Gapps, toroplus-for-toro-FC12 included in zip
6. Wipe cache/dalvik-cache and reboot. The reboot will take a long time and skip all the settings asked.
7. If tried program the phone before, it is suggested that after loaded into the Android OS, you should do a full *#*#786#*#* reset to wipe all of your previous attempted programming, if any.

Now you are ready to program your phone.

Step 3: Program your phone.

1. Find CDMA tool, enable usb diagnostic mode within it, and back to main screen.
2. Dial *#*#3282#*#*, enter 000000 for MSL, go to Others/ETS and select USB. click OK and back out.
3. Connect your phone to your computer.
4. On computer, start ETS 8.5.17 (run as administrator) and you should see something like this. If the there is no information in the pop-up window, then need to try enable CDMA usb diagnostic mode again.
5. Go to ETS's menu: Utilities/Script Utility
6. Copy content in script.txt and paste it into Script Utility, follow the instructions in the comments, replacing the first two items with the MDN (phone number), the next 3 with your MIN (MSID), and the remainder with your MDN. The last replacement is the SID, which you had to call your carrier (PagePlus or Selectel) to get. Hhit run.
7. Back in the CDMA Tools app, swipe all the way to the right. Change the directory from /data/media/ to /sdcard/PPflash and flash the 52896 prl.
8. Now you have your phone manually configured to your carrier. If you only need text, talk and 1X data, you not far from done. If you have a donor phone and want 3g, you need to do these steps before going to the next step..

Step 4: Install rom, radio, patch and activate your phone.

1. Reboot to recovery. Once again, wipe Data, System, Cache, and Dalvik-cache. Flash your ROM of choice (Paranoid Android included in the files you downloaded), and install Gapps. (I tried to install the Shiny rom but failed :( )
2. Last, install the i515 3g patch
3. Power off, Install your SIM card, Power on.
4. Activate (*228) with Selectel, then option 1 to program your phone. Don't panic when you hear greetings from Verizon, that's not anything wrong since Selectel does use Verizon's network.
5. Then, dial *228, option 2 to update your PRL with Verizon. Reboot. Everything should be working: Voice, Data, SMS, MMS.

Note: if there is no dial pad during activation, exit. Try dial *228+. Hold down the 0 key to get the +sign.

[电脑网络]Octave Portable and Octave in the Cloud

I am now taking an on-line course about Machine Learning on CourseRA (Link to the course) which requires Matlab or Octave (an open-source alternative of Matlab) for its programming assignments.

I am taking this course on computers in a library on which I don't have the privilege to install anything. I found there is a portable version of Octave available (see here ) that I can put it on my USB drive and use it on any Windows computer. I haven't tried it yet but it will be very convenient for people who like to take their working environment with them on a USB stick. The caveat is that I can only do this on Windows machines. Also, the portable Octave is based on Octave v2.9.15 while the latest Octave is v3.6.2.The ML class, however, provides an 3.2.4 version (Windows version download link).

From the class forum I learnt that there is an cloud based service which offering access to 3.6.2 version of Octave. Again, I haven't tried it yet but it seems to be an promising way to practice Octave. The Link of the service is here.

今天早上睡过了头，起床都已经8点了。昨天因为到家很晚，也没有提前预备饭，因此只能匆匆出门，快到公司的时候进到Subway里买了一个5 Dollar Foot long 的sub，拿到公司里来吃。

进公司门的时候，遇到了Becca。我入职的大部分事情，都是Becca办的。她是Head of staffs，帮助这个基金会从建立，到搬迁的过程中处理种种事情。她现在离职是去一个新工作，帮助Women Health Organization建立新的部门。她善于也乐于处理新建一个公司/机构的种种事情。用她的话说“It's boring when things settled down”。机构开始正常运转的时候，就是她另寻高就的时候了。而且这次雇她的是她的老东家，她也更乐于回去。

阶梯Becca的，将是Tim。Tim是一个比较精干的人。平时就已经开始处理这种重要的日常事务。我所在的研究部门的创建，他是从头到尾都参与的。工作能力很得大老板和我老板的赏识。

中午的时候同Brian一起出去吃饭，去了一家经营日餐和中餐的馆子。下面是我点的午餐套餐。除了照片上的这些，还有一个味噌汤。所有的东西味道都还算可以。沙拉的味道则一般。偶尔与同事一起出来吃饭也挺愉快滴。

午饭：Salmon Tyriyaki, Sushi, dumplings and rice

晚饭本来是打算做冬瓜虾仁的。结果我回家已经太晚了，买菜的摊位已经不卖冬瓜了。我心里不痛快，于是也没买其他的。想起来因为别人不卖给我冬瓜也就不买其他的东西了实在是很幼稚的表现。首先，自己也没有尽力去争取一定要买到冬瓜。其二，人家不卖给我冬瓜，可是其他的东西是卖的呀？青椒啊，活鱼啊，白薯啊，水果啊，都很好的。干嘛不买。不过呢，不买也没什么，正好趁机会好好的打扫一下冰箱。找出半颗白菜，半块豆腐，一袋鳕鱼，正好做了吃了。一做就是一大盆。白菜出了好多汤水，我把汤水直接盛出来放到另外一个过里，飞上点儿蛋花，当作汤喝掉了。剩下的菜，吃一半，留一半给明天。OK。

晚饭：炖白菜豆腐鳕鱼+汤

另外，今天苹果公司两件大事：一是iPhone 4S 发布，7日预售14日店内销售。二是其灵魂人物Steve Jobs去世。前面的消息是早上发有,布的，发布之后苹果股价一路走跌：大众预期iPhone 5，你出个4S，自然没人会有多大兴趣。后面的消息是休市之后发布的。还不知道对股市会有何影响。可以预见的是，4S很可能会因为Jobs的死而大卖：因为这是乔帮主主持设计的最后一款手机了吧，至少他的拥趸会这样想吧。为了纪念而买的人一定大有人在。

不管怎么说，一切都会过去的。无论是Jobs是看到自己的4S发布之后才咽的气还是苹果借Jobs的离世来做营销，4S注定在很多人眼里会成为一款有特别意义的手机的。

[电脑网络] 将 PC 虚拟化 手记

注意，本文未整理，发布出来作为自己的参考。

在Kai的blog 美国鼠谈上看到他利用VMWare Fusion的PC2MAC功能将之前用的PC转换成虚拟镜像，既保留了原来的文件又能不时的使用Windows上的程序，而且所有的软件均能顺利迁移。这让我也动起了心思，想要把自己netbook上的Windows也迁移过去，省得还不时的得切换PC，做一些只有在Windows下的工作。

我先是取得了VMWare Fusion的30 day 试用，按照这篇文章(英文)的方法做好各项设置之后，运行migration失败。说是什么防火墙的问题，可是我都已经把防火墙给停掉了呀!

可能是我的Windows系统有什么设置上的问题吧。反正是没有成功。我打算暂且不管了。

之后却柳暗花明地发现Paragon的 “Paragon Go Virtual ”。它也可以将系统转化为虚拟镜像使用，而且还支持免费的Virtualbox的格式（请看重灌狂人的介绍，下载软件的话可以到这里），这个也当然要试用一下。结果呢，因为需要制成的镜像文件太大，无处保存而告终。不过，这款软件支持通过网络进行存储的。我下面只需要搞定Windows能共享到我的Mac的文件夹就可以了。

这说起来简单，但执行起来却遇到了困难。因为我的MACBook Pro是工作的地方给配发的,账户的设置上使用的是Apple 的Mobile Account under Active Directory Login。在这种情况下，我无法开启SMB sharing（开启SMB sharing 需要关联本地账户）。然后就卡在这里，不知道下一步如何进行。

休息了一下，我想到有三条路可以走：一想办法解决Mobile Account 在AD login下无法使用SMB share；二，想办法获取系统管理员的密码（非Mobile账户）；三，创建一个新的账户，进行分享。比较之下，第三个更加容易办到。

于是，我建立了一个临时账户，并且不为这个账户进行Mobile设置。接下来为这个账户设置分享文件夹，赋予读写权限，并设置通过SMB分享设置好了。重新登录之后，windows中出现了Mac电脑。按Paragon Go Virtrual的提示一步步的选好文件夹，填好登录Mac的用户名密码什么的，点OK。然后这程序就会开始同Mac建立连接。需要注意的是，Paragon go virtual先要把Mac上共享的文件夹mount成一个Drive，或者说是网络磁盘。这个过程中，可能会跳将出一个对话框让你填用户名密码。这个时候的用户名密码要填的是你的Windows的具有管理员权限的用户名密码！。 （进行到这里，我忽然想到，是不是我之前使用VMWare Fusion 应当用管理员帐号打开呀？又或者我如果用管理员帐号打开Paragon Go Virtual，这里就不会有这个对话框啊？无论怎样，都已经进行到这一步了，耐心等待吧..... 如果目前的做法不行，回头再去试就得了。）

转换进行当中，估计会进行几个小时吧。用这个时间，我先来写写心得。

其实Paragon go virtual与 VMware  PC2Mac tool做的事情是一样的，都是将当前的系统给虚拟化成虚拟镜像。VMware 的 PC2Mac tool需要配合Mac下的VMware Fusion来使用，生成的镜像是直接传到Mac上去了（不知道是否也能配合其他平台的VMware系列虚拟机软件，我猜是可以的）。PC2MAC是免费的，但是VMware Fusion这款软件售价49.99刀 （提供30天试用的）。

Paragon go virtual不需要配合其他软件就可以使用。可以生成适用于Virtualbox，VMware，和Virtual PC的镜像。生成的镜像不用说，也可以在不同的Host平台上使用的。

我个人偏向使用免费的Virtualbox，所以我个人会选Paragon Go Virtual来配合使用。当然，VMware的$49.99并不是很贵。只是日后每次大的版本升级都要准备好奉上银子吧。

Kai 80GB的转移用了两个小时左右。我有130GB。我先去干点儿别的吧。

* find "Use VSS <-> Hotbackup switch = off" parameter and change it to "Use VSS <-> Hotbackup switch = on"* save changesrun P2V Copy again.

刚才望了一眼电脑，发现通过网络传输的速度太慢。这个150GB大小的虚拟机，需要17个小时左右才能完成。不知到是我的网络太慢啊，还是网络太慢，应该是网络太慢吧。反正我是离明早上班只有12个小时啦。停了程序，等什么时候有时间再完成吧。至少知道了怎样完成这个任务了。

下次做这个任务时需要：高速的网络链接和充裕的时间。或者一块又较大空间的移动硬盘。移动硬盘还得被Mac和Windows所兼容。

[电脑网络]Filezilla 以明文方式存储密码

今天我要登录一个数据处理服务器，不幸的是，俺把密码给忘记了。苦思冥想的试了好多密码，还是不得门而入。后来我想起，我曾经用filezilla上传文件到那个server，而filezilla默认是保存密码的，于是就想去试试能不能从中找回密码。恩，这个任务，不到五分钟就让我搞定了。原因是Filezilla是以明文方式存储密码的。换句话说，密码没有经过加密，只要你找到保存密码的文件，用任何文本编辑器将其打开，就可以看到密码了。

这对于我是好事：我因此找到了自己的密码。但是如果是共用或者公用计算机，你就要小心了。泄露密码是在太容易了。下面是我从一个论坛看来的，贴在这里给给自己，也给大家提个醒。当然，不仅是Filezilla有这样的问题，许多软件都是这样做的，比如你正在用的浏览器。
当然了，即便是加密保存密码，也是防君子不防小人的。最好的办法，就是不保存任何密码，所有的密码都记录在脑子了，就好了 :) 如果你愿意这么做，我向你推荐《右脑超常记忆术》这本书。

以下三个文件包含你的FTP密码：

1. filezilla.xml - 存贮所有你访问过的服务器信息.
2. recentservers.xml - 存贮最近你访问过的服务器信息.
3. sitemanager.xml - 存贮你保存的站点信息.

这些文件通常存放于这些目录下：

• Windows XP/2K: "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\FileZilla"
• Windows 7: "C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\FileZilla\"
• Linux: "/home/username/.filezilla/"

解决办法：

采用“询问密码”或“交互式”方式登陆，这样密码不保存在磁盘上。

Athens Half Marathon Runners, Let Me Show You How to get your running proof photos, for free

If you participated the Athens, GA half Marathon like me, you probably already got several emails from the PBC Sports Photography telling you that your photo are ready. When I got this email, I was so excited and went to their website to see the photos of my girlfriend, my friends, and of course myself. This is our first half marathon and we trained very hard for it. I finished 42 overall and 8th in my age group. Qing met her goal to finish in 2 hours. We all want the proof for sure. Plus, I managed to smile to every each photographer while I was running and I want to share the smile with all my family and friends.

So, you can imagine how happy I was when I saw my photos following the link in that email. After browsing all my picture, I naturally right licked the mouse on the photo and expected to see the right-click menu with the "save image as" option. Sadly, nothing happened. Then I realized that this side banned the right-mouse-click to prevent people from downloading pics directly.

Well, that's nothing new. They are trying to sell the pictures to you. That's the whole purpose of the business. They took your picture, give you some low resolution ones to preview, and sell you the high resolution ones. I think it's a good idea. The thing is, I do not have that $50 and I can survive with low resolution pics. (If you upload your photos to facebook or other picture hosting services, they probably will down sample it anyway.) So I decide to get the pictures on the website.

It's actually very simple, you go to the website following the link in your email, after it is fully loaded, copy and paste the code bellow into the address box of your browser and hit "Enter" key on your keyboard. A small window will popup, just click the small "OK" button on it. Now you can use right mouse click on the website.

This is one more thing: when I right click on the photo I want to save, there is no the "save image as" option in the right-click menu. I used "save page as" option instead and save the webpage. When save the webpage, be sure to choose the "save as type" to be "webpage, complete". If you have multiple photos to save, just left click on the small version of the photo you want to download on the left side, and then right click and save the webpage. The program will warn you the same files are already there. Just choose overwrite when asked (Believe me, nothing critical will be overwritten).

When all this is done, just go the folder the webpage was saved. You will see one html file and a folder with the same name, go into the folder, you pictures will be there. There are going to be a lot files in the folder. Just sort the files by size. Your photos will be the JPG files with largest file size.

52个实用网站

最近，PC world 评选出了52个实用网站。我浏览了一下这些网站，发现我每天都用的dropbox, Nutrition Data和Mint赫然在列。早就闻其名的Zoho在线办公软件，Livemesh，meebo也在其中。其他多数网站虽然我不是都用过，但是看功能，都对我很有吸引力，恨不得马上都放到自己的收藏夹里。

一个个的放到收藏夹比较麻烦，不如学学我前几天做的《把时间当作朋友》的firefox 侧边栏，把这些网站也都放进侧边栏。只需要在书签栏上轻轻一点，就可以在侧边栏呼出所有52个网站网站，就方便太多了。

想到了就做！于是我的第二个侧栏应用诞生了。

好东西同分享，如果你也使用firefox，你也可以将这个侧边栏应用加到你的bookmark栏上去。

《把时间当作朋友》 Firefox侧栏书签

《把时间当作朋友》（豆瓣链接）是一本好书。
更令人叫好的是，作者李笑来把这本书的全文放在了自己的blog之上，供所有能上网的人免费读。

既然是好书，而且又能免费得到，就没有理由不读了。不过，笑来的blog是个宝库。我呢，又是个容易受到诱惑的人，经常是看到一半就被别的链接牵走了，弄到自己也不知道自己读到哪里了。

为了方便自己阅读，我制作了一个FireFox的侧栏书签。使用这个书签，可以在firefox浏览器侧栏打开《把时间当作朋友》的章节目录。点击相应的章节目录，文章内容就会在浏览器中出现。

好东西同分享，如果你恰好也是用Firefox浏览器，不妨试用一下这个侧栏书签。希望它能帮你节省一点点时间。

安装方法：

turorial: installing AFNI on a Windows machine using Cynwin

Our lab bought a new server which allows only one network protocol at a time. We can not mount it to both Windows machine and Linux machine at the same time. Right now we can access the server using Windows machine.

The software we are using for fMRI data analysis is AFNI, which works the best on a Linux environment. To get it work with Windows, I found this tutorial document online. If you follow the document exactly, you can have AFNI running on Windows.

There is one problem though. If you run AFNI following the tutorial document, you will not be able to move the AFNI Window around. That's very annoying (test it by yourself and you will know what I mean here).

The solution is very simple: on page 8 of the document, you will see "typing 'startx'- use the standard X Window system ". Do not do that. Type startxwin instead. You will see the difference.

One more thing, on the AFNI download page, it says the afni for cynwin is "not recommended". My colleague Ben Austin contacted the AFNI people asking why is that. Here is the response from afni

As far as I can tell, the cygwin version of AFNI does not include any of the plug-ins, 3dSkullStrip and the SUMA software (because of problems with OpenGL support). Also I vaguely remember it uses the LessTif library, and menu items in the AFNI GUI sometimes have strange behavior.

[电脑网络]电脑复生记

实验室一台Linux电脑，在一年多前罢工了。上面都是重要的资料，因此老板也比较急的。我那个时候呢，正因为在自己的办公电脑上乱装软件，受到批评和警告（这台电脑挂掉时老板还差点错怪是我给造成的），郁闷之余，也懒得去管它。毕竟，系里有专门吃这电脑系统管理这碗饭的人...

结果，吃这碗饭的人把这台电脑就断了电源，放到一边儿接了尘土去了。这一接还就是一年多.... 当初还说要想办法回复上面的数据来着。实验室的其他人催促过多次，也是没有结。这事儿就拖下了，也没人提起，大家慢慢地都忘了....

今年，实验室人变多了。老板奉行“研究生应当花时间在实验室中与同学多多交流”的原则，也不给学生们的个人办公室提供电脑了。研究生加上在实验室帮忙处理数据的本科生都得到实验室用电脑，于是五台电脑就捉襟见肘，不够用的了。同学和我一商量，要老板加电脑。老板同意了，于是我们心情大好。不过这事情照例得通过“吃这碗饭的”人来办，至少还得等上几个星期吧。远水不解近渴，于是，我老人家最近虽然忙，可是心情不错，于是就把那个接灰的电脑搬出来，看看能不能修理。


话说实验是的这台电脑，运行的是Linux系统。刚到实验室的时候，这台电脑都是师姐们在用，处理数据什么的。而对于Linux，我一点也不熟悉。倒不是我不愿意学，而是我在国内的时候一直没有属于自己的电脑，没法自己折腾别的系统。在进现在的这个实验室之前，我接触到的电脑是一水儿的Windows，所以对Linux系统一开始还是敬而远之的。不过，我有折腾精神，又有google相助，怕什么，上手吧。

接上电源，主板加电了。开机，主板报警，一查code，说内存的事情。打开机箱一看，这台机器还挺牛，8条内存，每个256MB，合计2GB。不知道这电脑是哪年买的，不过光看这架势，当初买的时候价格就不低。把内存统统插一遍，顺便发现硬盘电源线没插上，可能是“吃这碗饭的人”当初“工作”的残余吧。再次开机，没有警报。但是也没有能顺利重启。屏幕显示在检查文件系统的时候发现错误，给我两个选项，一是以root身份登入进行“保养”，一个是强制继续。

选强制继续，结果重启，然后再次停在了同样的地方。此路不通。
那就登录root吧。幸亏我还记得root的密码，可是进去之后干什么呢？于是开始google。很多人说要做fsck，就是File system check。我用fdisk命令查看所有的分区，并且把所有的分区做了check。检查结果说各个分区都没有问题，可是我就是进不去系统。

仔细读了不知多少遍出错信息，都说是fsck.ext3 /dev/sdc3 failed, could not find the device... 意思就是说着不到/dev/sdc3这个设备。我就纳闷儿啊，是啊，我也找不到啊，这个/dev/sdc3到底跑到哪里去了？再说，这机器只有两块硬盘，分被是/dev/sda 和 /dev/sdb。 这个/dev/sdc是啥子啊？ 于是我google啊，我找啊，折腾了啊...一直就折腾到了天黑...

晚上6点多了，mm打电话来，说要去锻炼了，让我结束工作也去锻炼。我答应下了。

放下电话突然灵机一动，觉得自己好傻啊，既然找不到这个/dev/sdc，就不要找了嘛，不加载它不就完了？先研究一下linux怎么加载硬盘吧。google一下，立即明白了，Linux的安装过程中会生成一个叫做fstab的文件放在/ect/目录中，这个文件里面会记录着硬盘分区信息和挂在点等等信息。我打开一看，果然，里面有一条关于/dev/sdc3 的记录。OK, 先把fstab备份成fstab.bak。然后打开fstab,在关于/dev/sdc3的这一行记录前面加上个#使得该行代码不被执行。保存，退出，重启，成功！ Oh yeah！

第一次使得linux系统起死回生，值得记录一下... 更何况，这一行小小的代码问题，用一个字符就能修复的问题，竟用去了我从10：30-19：30的大块时间。刨除午饭，帮实验同学看数据和听讲座的3个小时。这个字符，我用了6个小时才加上。 真是难者不会，会者不难啊...

[电脑网络]卡巴斯基与网盘的冲突解决一例

今天上传文件到megaupload，试了多次都不成功。症状是无论多大的文件都是瞬间完成，然后出现一个undifined，却没有给我链接。到账户设置里查看，也没有新文件上传。之后我又实验了多次，也换了好几个网盘尝试，都是上传失败。

上网找了一圈，很多人报告这个问题，然而成功解决的却不多。有人建议卸载了卡巴斯基，这不是解决而是逃避问题。MaaJiaa 建议添加地址信任（见这里），但我试了一下，不起作用。
在同一篇博客中，MaaJiaa 的文章提到了端口监控，并且通过将卡巴对80和443端口的监控给关闭而解决网盘上传不能的。不过，80和443是最容易受攻击的两个端口啊，禁止了对他们的监控那不就是给小偷开狗洞了么！这跟没装杀毒软件是一样的啊，还是要不得。完全不监控则会提高被病毒木马攻击成功的概率不开这两个端口，则又上传不能。二者折中一下，如果只对上传的软件开放端口，而继续检测其他软件对这两个端口的检测，就会好多了。而卡巴斯基恰好有这样的功能。

思路：因为我用的网盘都是网页上传，且基本没有用到https链接，因此只需要浏览器能够访问80端口就好。如果你选择的网盘支持https链接，则需要打开443端口。我用到的是浏览器是firefox和Chrome，那么我只需要让卡巴斯基允许这两个软件使用80端口就可以了。个人不建议开放IE的80端口检测，因为，微软的东西往往是黑客们的首要目标。

卡巴斯基啊设置方法：打开卡巴斯基=>设置=>威胁和排除=》排除对象 设置=》信任程序=》添加=》应用程序=》选中 Firefox.exe =>勾选“不扫描网络流量”=>选择特定端口=》在弹出的对话框中填入80 （或者443），然后一路“确定”。
同样方法设这卡巴斯基对Chrome的监控。

这些设置好之后，网盘上传就不再有问题了。

在gmail中听歌

亦歌，一个在线音乐网站，界面简洁，速度也不错。令我最兴奋的是，它有一个igoogle应用，可以在igoogle页面和gmail中就能使用它。

这个应用来自 Gfans group 的 Puppy.wang 的推荐。 在gmail中添加此应用的的方法来自Gfans的 l l 。在此先向两位致谢了！

设置方法：

1，打开gmail的 右上角的“设置” Settings ，选择“实验室”Labs标签，启用“按网址添加任何小工具”Add any gadget by URL小工具。

2，保存后 刷新Gmail，点击设置，你会发现多了一个“小工具”Gadgets标签。

3，在输入框中填入 http://hosting.gmodules.com/ig/gadgets/file/101405928257225338180/1g1g.xml 这个地址

4，之后亦歌就会出现在左边的小工具栏中了。

亦歌的网站也值得一看，界面简洁，使用方便，更没有广告。它的听歌扩展工具还有许多，有针对Windows，Linux和Mac的专门桌面软件，也有基于AIR的跨平台桌面和各种浏览器的侧边栏应用。如果有问题，可以去看它的完善的帮助页面，我就不唠叨了。

[电脑网络]便携的电脑会将人类带到何方？

今天去了Medical college of Georgia (MCG)，去那里做下一次实验前的最后一次调试。回来的路上同Cindy聊天，说道电脑越来越小的同时，人们却追求显示器越来越大。而人们同电脑的交流也仍无法摆脱键盘鼠标。Netbook牺牲了屏幕大小，而比鼠标还小的电脑却仍然离不开鼠标的支持。电脑主机的便携与不能再小了的键盘和鼠标，与越做越大的显示器之间矛盾也越来越明显。如果我们仍是用手做输入的主力，且追求视觉项少的话，那么小电脑与输入输出设备之间的不平衡就很难调和。除非新的输入输出方式的出现。接着我就想到了且些日子看过的一个来自TED的视频，正是讲这种新型的输入输出方法的。这就是MIT媒体实验室的SixthSense Project（英文）. 请看下面的视频：



可以想见这种便携设备投入使用之后，人们就可以随时随地（甚至上厕所时）在电脑前了。不知道这将是好事还是坏事。现在，已经有很多人被电脑粘在了它的前面。很多人工作时面对电脑，回到家后草草吃完饭又迫不及待地回到电脑屏幕前。磁铁一般的电脑终将因便携技术的发展将它自己牢牢的粘在人类身上。我们可以带着它，去任何地方。

可是它将会把我们带到什么地方呢？提出这个问题我却没有能力回答。
我们已经在电脑上耗费这么多是时间，人们已经因为电脑而变得越来越宅，越来越缺乏实际交往，还嫌不够么？

要让电脑侵入日常生活的方方面面确实会让我担心。但愿这一切都不会让人类更进一步的远离自然。也希望便携电脑是好事。

[心理藏书]收心阁的藏书从哪里来-英文书

收心阁里文章最多的栏目叫做心理藏书（这里或这里）。这个栏目里面的文章都是分享一些心理学专业的书籍，也有一些关于写作和研究生学习的书。

把自己读过的书一本一本地拿出来供大家一起阅读的分享书籍的方法，属于授人以鱼。这样做的好处是，可能会找到与自己有相同阅读兴趣的人，进行交流和探讨。然而，交流的事情终是少见的：茫茫人海中找个爱读书的人容易，找个同你共读一本书的人则有些难，遇到一个愿意探讨的就更不容易了。但是，把自己喜爱的书推荐给别人仍不失为一种结交朋友的好办法。可是呢，我的小小blog肯定不能满足所有爱书人的读书需要。我也无意这样做。

授人以鱼不如授人以渔。

在这篇文章里，conge打算把自己找书的方法发出来。这样，大家除了访问我的blog获取一些好书，也能不用通过我来找到自己爱读、想读的书。宝贵的时间，应当少浪费在在寻找上，多花在阅读上。这次我主要讲英文书的获取。至于中文专业书的获取，则要难许多，我恐怕不会写了。有兴趣的人可以到 读书中文网去 逛逛。

收心阁的英文书，大多书来自于gigapedia.com(或者gigapedia.org 或者gigapedia.net) 。若想从gigapedia下书，你必须注册成为其会员。注册过程很简单，我不多说。然后你就可以在gigapedia网站上找书了。

找书方法Hugh在他的blog杂乱的书桌中做了介绍，我把它copy过来并重新排了一下版。Credit goes to Hugh.

当你需要查找某本书的时候，使用页面右上角的搜索栏，需要注意的时，把搜索栏选择为gigapedia，而不是默认的google，你可以选择搜索作者的名字或者书名，搜索的结果会将书名，作者以及封面都显示出来。

点击你想要下载的书籍，（先不要着急，要找到下载的地址还需要一定的时间），新的页面里面会出现四个tab，分别是description, links, comments, tags, 我们可以在links这个标签下面找到下载链接，需要注意的是，很多时候会有两个甚至更多的链接，接下来你可以查看下上传时间以及comments里面的评论，选择最好的一个链接来下载。

基本上这些书都是存放在rapidshare或者ifile这些网络硬盘的站点，我们可以作为免费用户进行下载.只是rapidshare有一定限制.如果你每次只是找一本书的话一点问题都没有,而下载第二本或者第三版时会需要你等待10几分钟之后才可以再次下载。
相比而言，ifile要更好一些，因为两次下载之间没有时间限制。

Gigapedia的书很全，多数都是PDF格式的书籍。从种类上来讲，gigapedia上的书可不仅限于心理学方面。事实上它所包含的学科相当全面，文学，物理，化学，数学，地理...几乎无所不包。当然，也有不少休闲读物和有声读物。估计里面的书够你读上几辈子了。

当然，找书的方法还有很多，但是既然gigapedia的书已经够你读几辈子了，我就不费劲儿介绍了。

善意提醒各位一下：少花时间搜书下书，多花时间阅读。因为书存在硬盘上，并不意味着就是你的了。书，只有你阅读了它，它才对你有意义。

[电脑网络]SPSS16在Vista下的安装问题

之前在WinXP系统的电脑上装过很多次的SPSS，已经是驾轻就熟。原以为在Vista下也不会有什么问题。可偏偏换了Vista系统后，就有了问题了。
问题出现在激活那一步上：我在运行license authorization wizard时，系统报错然后退出向导。错误信息为"please run this utility from your product's installation folder.(echoid.dat)" 。我到网上搜索了一下，好像有不少人遇到了这个问题，却没有解决办法。经过几分钟的折腾，我在俄亥俄州立大学的网页上找到了解决办法，现在这里跟大家分享一下。
出现这个问题的原因是在SPSS安装过程中,vista系统或者安装程序未能正确的生成echoid.dat这个文件。
解决方法如下：

1. 下载下面的文件并解压缩：

ftp://ftp.spss.com/pub/spss/windows/74746.zip

2. 解压后的文件为echoid.dat。将其复制到SPSS的安装文件夹。SPSS16的默认文件夹为：

SPSS for Windows - C:\Program Files\SPSSInc\SPSS16

3. 运行 License Authorization Wizard.

iFile.it虽好，但页面上广告也不少。
你初次访问，想找到下载链接也得费点儿功夫。
若是英文不灵，那就更麻烦了。

1 点击ifile的链接（例子见[心理藏书] 脑功能成像 唐孝威主编（087）），接进入ifile.it的下载页面，
2 页面靠上的部分，找到并点击 “request download ticket”，
3 同样位置，点击“download”，文件就会开始下载。

一 导言：

Conge我认为啊，Acrobat share尤其适合用来分享PDF格式的文档/书籍。
简单列举一下其优点先：

1 支持中文文件名和中文PDF。
2 文件可以设为私有和公开。（只有公开的文件才可能被别人看见或者下载）
3 每个文件都有一个专有地址，只有知道该地址才可能下载该文件。
4 对PDF文件可以进行在线预览,你可以先看后下。（注，只能预览未加密的PDF）
5 在线预览功能对影印PDF和文本PDF均可完美支持。

当然不足之处也是有的， 比如Acrobat share虽然提供了多语言支持，但是其界面和帮助文档的都没有中文的。目前具有的是英语，日语，荷兰语和德语界面。当然这对我，或我的blog的大部分读者来说，这本不算什么问题。我还是决定写一个简明的教程，一来向我的朋友介绍Acrobat Share这一优秀的网络服务，二来也来给英语不灵的朋友引个路，让大家能开始认识并使用Acrobat Share。

这个教程主要做两件事：

2 介绍如何使用Acrobat Share进行文件上传、预览和分享

Adobe旗下的Acrobat.com网站是一个类似于Google Docs，微软Office Live Workspace的协同办公网站。用户可以在这里进行文档编辑、共享、协作。难能可贵的是，它为除了用户提供了5GB的免费空间来存储个人文件之外，还提供了文件分享功能，让用户可以轻易的与他人分享自己的文档。


三 使用简明教程

1 注册流程
a 进入注册界面。
点击 https://share.acrobat.com/ 进入网站，界面如下图1。地址红色的“Sign UP”链接。

b 填写注册信息。
注册界面如图2。请按照图中说明填写注册信息。需要注意两点：(i)一定要使用真实email地址注册，否则收不到注册确认信。（2)一定要勾中图2中红色圈中的框。
信息填写完毕后，点击“Begin”。

c 确认注册。
到注册信箱中找到注册信，点击其中的确认链接。如图3.

d 注册完毕
到此注册就完成了。你可以使用你刚刚创建的帐号登入Acrobat share了。图4是你登录后应该看到的界面。现在，你可以进行文件上传了

2 文件上传
a 选择文件
如图5，点击“Browse”按钮，在电脑上选择你要上传的文件。Conge推荐直接上传PDF文件，而不要压缩打包。可以一次选多个文件进行批量上传。

b 上传文件
选择好要上传的文件后，注意不要选中图中的框。然后点击“share”按钮进行上传。

c 等待上传
上传过程中，界面右下角有一个圆圈在那里转啊转，表明文件正在上传，在这个过程中请不要关闭浏览器。当界面右下角出现如图7中的提示框的时候，表明文件上传完毕了。

3 分享与下载
a 获取文件链接
点击文件名。如果你上传后第一次这样做，会出现如图8中的界面，你可以耐心等一下，就会出现如图9中的界面。
